[06 Mar 2008|03:58pm]

Hi, my name's Caroline and I've been accepted to McDaniel. It was my first choice, too. =)
I plan to major in Social Work and aim for my Masters in Counseling in 5 years. Anyone here in that program? I'd love to hear about it.
Also, I can't help but ask what the party scene is like. Of course I'm not going just to party, but you can't get an idea of what it is like by taking a tour or reading about the school in books, obviously. So.. what are the parties/the rest of the social scene like?

Chad Kardell, 1982 - 2008 [28 Jan 2008|09:38am]

I received an email this morning about Chad's passing. His obituary is as follows:

Chad E. Kardell, 25, of Leesburg , Va. , formerly of Murrysville, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, in Mountain View Specialty Care Center , Greensburg , as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born Aug. 23, 1982, in Pittsburgh , beloved son of Edward and Teresa "Teeny" (Gutwald) Kardell, of Greensburg (also formerly of Murrysville ). Chad was employed by the Polo Store in Leesburg as a sales manager. He was a 2000 graduate of Franklin Regional School District , Murrysville, and earned his degree in music education from McDaniel College , Maryland . He had a passion for music, and prior to relocating in Virginia , played the piano and organ during services at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Murrysville . He also enjoyed singing, especially "barbershop" songs. Chad will be immeasurably missed and is survived by his loving family; his parents, Edward and Teresa; brother, Bryan Kardell; niece, Linda Renee Kardell; grandparents, "Honey" Kardell Lauric and Joe Lauric, of Florida ; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive , Delmont, 724-468-1177. A Mass of Christian Burial for Chad will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 4202 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville, with Monsignor Richard Curci as celebrant and Father Bryan Summers as concelebrant. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park , Delmont. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions in Chad's memory be made to: Teresa Kardell, c/o First Commonwealth Bank, Delmont Office, 38 Greensburg St. , Delmont , PA 15626 . To send online expressions of sympathy, or for grief support or directions, please visit www.VaiaFuneralHome.com.

His online guestbook is here.

I sang in choir and madrigals with Chad. He was always uniquely himself and was interested in leading the campus community. He will be missed.

Hello all,

My niece just broke up with her boyfriend and is searching for a new place. Does anyone know of any decent apartments that are close to campus and affordable? She checked the Carroll County Times with no luck. Are there any other local sources to check? Are there any parts of town she should avoid?

hi, i'm nina. i'm a senior at the south carolina governor's school for the arts and humanities. i've been skimming though the colleges that change lives website, and from what i can see, mcdaniel would be a wonderful place for me to be. however, i have one question for those of you who are familiar with the art department:

coming from an art background with intention to study visual art, i'm curious as to what is it like in terms of resources, faculty, intensity, etc in comparison to an average art school.

thank you!

1)anybody in environmental policy+science? anybody in biology/somthing related? do you like it, do you hate it, any instructors to avoid like the plague or to cling to like it's the cure?
2)what about on campus employment? i'm talkin work study. what positions do they offer? would it be better to go through their work study program or find a job (part time employment in westminster=good/bad?)
3)name something you forgot at home that you couldn't stand being without in your dorm
4)anybody in army rotc? i hear it's a pretty tight-knit group up there. do you like it? are you scholarship student?
5)i keep hearing everybody is really nice. the tour guides were, and the admissions office has been too, but that's to be expected. are people pretty cool? (as in: will i receive an elitist shrug of the shoulders if i approach someone because we've all got our own little agenda of things to fufill or are people nice enough to try to make some friends)

i'm rob. see some of you in the fall!

Looking for an apartment/room to rent [04 Apr 2006|05:57am]

Hello, I'm an international student from Toronto, Canada who just have been accepted in the Deaf Education Program at McDaniel College. I'm looking for an apartment to rent, preferably nearby McDaniel so I can walk or bike there. If there's anyone on this community who can help by offering a place for me to stay or suggest a website I can look at to find places in Westminster. I prefer not to live outside of Westminster as I have a piece of crap car that probably will break down.

I'm looking for a $400-500 apartments if that is available in Westminster.

S.O.S!!!! [08 Mar 2006|11:44pm]

[ mood | searching for help! ]

Hi everyone! The Directing Senior Seminar needs major help for their final Scenes. We need one Production Stage Manager and 1 Assistant Stage Manager to help run rehearsals!
The ASMs will coordinate with the Production Stage Manager which rehearsal they will cover. Since there will only be 3 student directors rehearsing each night, and none after 11pm, no one will have to be running back and forth between rehearsals! Rehearsals have been scheduled into three seperate two-hour periods each night. There is no rehearsal on Fridays!
The PSM will be asked to sit in at least two rehearsals for each scene (there are 8 scenes) and help coordinate the rehearsal schedule and production meetings.
Anyone willing to be a Production manager or an ASM please contact me via AIM (sorcerous faerie), e-mail (crushedvervain@gmail.com), or leave a comment here. Please spread the word that we need help! Thank you!

i'm thinking about attending mcdaniel college starting next year (i'll be a sophomore).

is anybody in the german program, army ROTC, environmental policy, or on the wrestling team? what are your thoughts of it?

what are the dorms like? are the classes interesting? i want to go to college to learn, not just to get a degree.

any other thoughts: things you would have done differently? things you found out the hard way you wish you had known, etc?

i've been to the campus for german-american day before. i chaperoned my old high school's german classes and it's quite a beautiful place. i only saw a very small classroom (which is good since it makes me think classes will be small) and that the buildings have a very "old" feel (but in a good way). i'll be visiting the school soon for a tour since i read on the website that your application fee is waived if you do visit.

It has been how long since there has been a post here? [21 Jan 2006|02:53pm]

I'll admit, I mostly lurk at this community, but so long with out a post!??

The college was always so insular, but this seemed somewhat of a relief to that.

What if anything is going on on campus? Other than parties of course. No Good plays!? Interesting speakers? Movies in Decker? Does Cecilia still greet you at the front of GLAR?

Movie Viewing Party [07 Nov 2005|07:32pm]

"'Wal-Mart: the High Cost of Low Prices.' It's a powerful exposé on the toll the Wal-Mart behemoth has taken on workers and communities across the country, and how we can help turn the tide. Wal-Mart is going into attack mode. The company has literally created a war room, staffed with political consultants who are working day and night to undermine the movie and spread pro-Wal-Mart propaganda. But it's not working: thanks to the questions raised by the film, national media are tuning in to Wal-Mart's high cost to American families-and last week the movie was featured on page 1 of the New York Times. Next Saturday, we are taking this fight to thousands of living rooms around the country, holding viewing parties to watch the movie and get organized."

If you want to see it, FRIDAY. Nov. 18- 10:00 PM- let me know

A local Ford dealership donated 4 cars but then said they could only be used for Alumni in the parade since they don't want students driving them .. I did not know this part until 7:00PM LAST NIGHT (which is crap, but is the way it is..).

I need THREE cars for the Homecoming Court to sit on the back of or outside the T-tops. My car is in it, just need three more.. SO if you or anyone you know can help out PLEASE have them call or email me ASAP.

The parade is from 12-1, meeting @ East Middle School off of Main Street @ 11:15. The route is just up main street and behind the stadium.

Thanks in advance!!

safety concerns [10 Oct 2005|11:56pm]

so id really like to go see my boyfriend right now, but in light of the attack on someone the other day, i am a bit scared.

i was just wondering what people here are doing to keep themselves safe? there were 9 guys that jumped this guy and I hear hes messed up pretty bad...

does anyone think campus safety could provide an adequate enough escort?
